Apio supports young talent

At Apio, people are our most important asset! We are fortunate to have a unique mix of highly experienced and skilled, insurance professionals working in our business. Many of our team have years of experience working in the corporate insurance and risk consultancy environment. Others have come up through the ranks via our internal development programme.

We believe we have a knack in spotting talent and recently employed a young University Graduate, Sanele Shabalala who holds a BSc in Geological Sciences. We met Sanele entirely by chance at one of our team building events. Sanele was waitering at the time and we were immediately impressed by his enthusiasm and positive energy.

Sanele then told us his story, he has Graduated with a BSC but was unable to find a job despite his qualifications. He is the bread winner in his family and waiters to support them in Ladysmith. Having been impressed by Sanele we took down his details and promptly set up an Interview with the Apio Directors the following day.

A few weeks later, Sanele joined the Apio Team in the underwriting department as a trainee and looks at working his way through the company and building a career in the insurance industry.

In 2019 we as Apio challenge other companies to create more employment opportunities for young talent. Ask questions when people impress and maybe give them a chance, that’s all it takes to change someones life!
